Koi Behaviour??

I recently bought 2 koi. One is around 9′ and the other 7′. I mixed them with other fish including tiger barbs. They get along fine but I notice my koi love to slide their way through those rocks and plants decorations. They seem to love squeezing themselves in between ornaments and I don’t know why! Another habit they have is hiding in the dark. I have like a waterfall stand and they always hide behind it near the air pump and filter, in the dark. I tried putting barriers to stop them from hiding behind but they seem to try their very best to squeeze through. Though they failed each time, that’s practically all they do over and over again! Why is that so?
Its not a tank. Its a lil pond I have.

Why are you trying to block the koi from the waterfall stand?

Firstly koi are scavengers and will squeeze between plants, pots, rocks and filters. they will uproot plants and move smaller rocks. This is one way they look for food. You will not stop this behavior. Also, chances are they are hiding due to they are adjusting to their new home. this can take weeks, nothing to worry about. they may be hanging around the water outputs since it is there the most dissolved oxygen is in great quantities.

To keep from injuring the fish, remove the barriers and let them have free swim of the pond. They will be happier.
